All The Bullies & All The Trouble Makers…
On a visit to the New Orleans Jazz Museum, I had the rare pleasure of visiting the Louis Armstrong exhibit. The piece in their collection which struck me the most was a three page hand-written letter to Mr. Armstrong from a childhood friend who had grown-up in the French Quarter (Vieux Carré) with him in the 1900’s…
The letter listed all the characters, the bullies and the trouble-makers, that populated the streets at that time.
“I don’t see how I didn’t get hit. Just wasn’t my time to die, man.” - L. Armstrong
The song, ‘The Bullies & The Troublemakers’, was inspired by this letter, and is populated with the same characters Mr. Armstrong survived with, along with references to street names and more from The Crescent City…
